I'm from Austin,TX, a blue island in a red sea, politically speaking.  
I wanted to find other similar islands hence this project in the works.
The 2012 US election data comes from the guardian and though not completely correct,
it is a sufficient approximation.  Alaska doesn't work currently for that reason.  
Socioeconmic data comes from Measure of America 2013-14 report
Public health data comes from University Of Wisconsin's county health rankings site
Click BLUE ISLANDS in upperleft to toggle.  Click list headings and counties to toggle counties on and off.
